Homes & Property (Evening Standard, Wednesday 22 January 2002):

Musician Mike Oldfield has sold his Wind in the Willows-style cottage by the Thames for £1 million, through Hamptons.  The four-bedroom property near Marlow discreetly houses an indoor swimming pool and games room.  "Mike wasn't spending much time there as he owns another house in the same area," the agent explains.  Oldfield, who composed the mega-selling Seventies album Tubular Bells, bought the property 18 months ago as a Muse.  "I was working on a chill-out album and the river was perfect inspiration," he says.

(Thanks, Pendleburn)

Mikehousejoke #3: no wonder I can't compose any decent music... My house is not enough expensive... So either I find money and buy a nice house, or I find a Richard Branson to host me. ;)

BTW, Mike is supposed to make a second chill-out album. (Unless it's already done?)

4 bedrooms for a million quid? You were robbed there mate, come to Scotland a million bucks would buy about 40 bedrooms and you're very own river all to yourself. Shit weather though.

Oh! To be able to just buy a million quid house for a bit of inspiration then sell it off again!
Chill out album inspiration - overlooking a river.
Rock album inspiration- overlooking ragged rocks!
Pastoral Album inspiration- overlooking lush fields.
Amarok - overlooking Richard Branson!
.....and so on.

Is a coincidence that the John Cleese's movie (GB/ USA 1996) has the same Mike's cottage style name ("The Wind in the Willows")???

thinking... guessing... wishing...
recently he's returned to the origin in more than one way... (tubular bells... life near his roots...) so maybe the inspiration he's receiving nowadays is that again, the recall of his origins, BUT (and here comes the wish) with tubular world vr under his arm... as he sold the house which helped him to get the mood of working about chill out albums, it could mean it is already written...
... or could also mean he has stored for a while the idea of extending mvr?
i do hope to be wrong about this second possibillity...
:)

..just guessing here if that house was the one that he bought in the end of 2001 'cause of his(now)wife, since she didn´t enjoy the Croft...

BTW,the english media does care about Mike's private stuff, not HIS MUSIC...that makes me sick :(
...very "interesting" thing to know when you´re dying to see more info about the new Tubular Bells and Tubular World MVR....
