According to the Official Chart Company Mike is on course for a very high placing with Return To Ommadawn, it is only being beaten as of writing by the new album from Pete Tong, if Mike goes in at even number 2, that would be an amazing thing for him and the album :)

...how many more are needed to get him to number 1?!...if i buy another copy would that help?

;)

i'm seriously considering getting hold of the vinyl too - it would be worth it, so no problem!

Fantastic news. Return to Ommadawn went in at 4. Not only that but it was the highest new entry on the chart. I would not hope for Mike to get a number 1 album with the current musical climate so for me number 4 is as good as number 1. Well done Mike.

Well, I have just checked the UK album chart, and unless I've got this wrong (forgive me if I have) RTO is in at number 4!
Hurrah!!

Yes, I am sure Mike doesn't care about the chart placing, but considering what people are buying and placing at the tope of the charts these days, I'd say that it is a right result.

Maybe he is not concerned, but it's impossible to not care.

He is not concerned because he is neither the type of guy who does something for the numbers nor does he have any financial reasons to be concerned.

Not caring would mean that he was only releasing the album just for his own fun and not for others to enjoy it. High chart placing means that people enjoy it and that should make him happy.

well he does have financial reasons (having to sell the yacht). But I don't think the financial stuff influences the way he composes.

And he did express wonder why TSODE didn't sell more. Of course he cares. But that doesn't mean he tries to make music to sell a lot.

Charts mean nothing but good sales, I don't get why people are excited about it.

Sales means success and acceptance. And having your music appreciated is the important thing, if you are a musician.

The important thing is creating great art, all the rest is meaningless.

How do you know if you have created great art?

That's fine. But if a musician isn't interested in chart placing, acceptance by others and can't be in a position to know if he has created great art, what would he/she be interested in when releasing a new work?
